Posting this out of the view of those Americanos. I had the first day of Pacific Crest auditions today. My first impression was that things weren’t thought out properly by the staff or executive, or whatever. When you go to RCC, when you go to Phantom Regiment, Bluecoats and Blue Devils especially, there is ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Not only was this detail not conveyed to us, but it even began...

Aussies getting softer →
Hear hear! But if Aussies are soft, Americans have no substance to them at all. About time we all drank a cup of concrete.

practice recordings →
Pretty self-explanatory. I’ve also started a practice diary, that you can find there. I should’ve done that a long time ago, but it didn’t occur to me for some reason… Well, it’s there now, if you ever want to look at it.

For all my swolings
Being taught brass-playing at the drum corps level is like being taught by Russell. Russell level detail, except more, and for longer periods of time. It’s kind of awesome. Maybe we should all get private lessons from Russell, because we’d learn in such DETAIL.

I’ve been way too active on this blog, but that means there’s lots to read, if you feel like it.

I whole-heartedly agree.. Song associations work best when the song you use is clear in your mind and easily recalled, so I’m surprised people have such difficulty with the ascending minor third when Smoke on the Water can be associated with it. If you’ve ever spent more than ten minutes in a music store, you probably never want to hear this song again thanks to the twerps in the guitar...

American Obesity
A side note on American Obesity: at the blue devils camp, saturday, we went for a 10 minute run. Out of about 50 people there, I finished up around 4th. I was actually lapping not just the outwardly overweight, but the people who looked healthier than me. Maybe this is a comment on the general physical well-being of Americans then. I have put at least 3kg since leaving Australia and my shirts...

Updates! All my e-house dorm-mates are going home for the three-week winter break. That’s three weeks alone in this house :| I’m slightly creeped out, but also excited to be able to practise there.  That chauvinist pig, Josh, has moved out. Ding dong the witch is dead, and all that. That was 2 weeks ago and people STILL talk about him. It’s funny, I’ve not found anyone who...

I’m tired. I just spent from 5pm - 9pm preparing an audition etude for bluecoats (audition tomorrow). About an hour warming up, and then 3 hours bumping up the tempo from 90 bpm to 135 bpm. How does that take 3 hours?! Ugh….

Well I figured out why I kept feeling like I was in Australia. We’re going into winter, there’s a lot of grass around and it reminds me of Sunday afternoon touch training.  Also, I have gotten 3 nights of proper sleep. I am surprised to find myself bored, instead of struggling to stay awake in lectures. Being bored is easier though :) Bluecoats audition this weekend.
