Drum corps
I’ve been thinking about drum corps a bit recently, not least because I’ve been showing people the 2011 finals DVD and because I spoke to the brother of someone in my section, who happens to study in Australia.
It’s becoming clear that drum corps memories are going to be with me for a long time to come. The flashbacks to various rehearsal sites keep coming and I think I can...
violence isn't as cool as it seems

Instead of kissing someone on new years I’m gonna punch someone in the face
As someone who just left her sister at the mall because her sister swung her around by the hair and hit her in the face/eye, I’m calling bluff on this one.
robomello asked: You're supposed to put asks in the ask box lol :P. I don't think I have a favorite

If someone were to compile heaps of horn players playing these excerpts, that would be brilliant…

Meeting people
To Jeanette: Why AREN’T you here with me, busking? There was a trumpet player busking in the same area yesterday and he reminded me of you. I bought his CD for $10 and I will upload some tracks for you :)
The chime game: I quite successfully chimed on the trumpet guy’s “Sway” (think buble). It’s easier with brass because they tend to stick to keys you’re used...
Awesome rejected Star Wars products...
cheesy-e:
I literally would buy all of these.
In the process of becoming obsessed with star wars music I also grew to love all things star wars. I second the sentiment above.
Busker playing carols on bottles and a drum kit. One of his bottles was out of tune :(
Creepy people
Tonight was an 8-12 busking gig and it was an annoying night. I moved around a lot because Pitt st mall was occupied by loudly-amped guitar players and the other spots smell. When I eventually came back this guitarist had himself amped excessively. I could barely hear myself play. But it’s times like those that I remember that I don’t need the help of an amp and external power to...
Last time I went busking, Monday, it was raining and I parked myself under a footbridge at pitt st mall. One of the first people to talk to me was a woman who informed me of her son’s choice to play the horn. She asked me if it was hard to play (well.. it’s harder than other brass..) , whether it was my first brass instrument (yes), whether I had tried other brass instruments (yes,...

Weird busking day
random decides to high five me, asks me to play teddy bear’s picnic, claims he’s waiting for his girlfriend who works at myer and hangs around for a good 10 minutes or so, before I send him away.
one of the elderly ladies I saw the other night comes to talk to me again, but this time with her OTHER daughter. lol. Cathleen, catherine and gabi. And then tries to tell me how to play...
Three figure takings and a lollipop
Yup, that’s the first time I’ve gone into the hundreds. It was quite an eventful night too.
A police car came screaming down the concourse with its sirens and lights going…
A group, a huge group, of roller skating, Christmas costumed people rolled on down the concourse. One guy gave me a lollipop.
A Japanese couple came up to me, dropped some money and said...

No paper clips
I still raked in a fair sum today, but received no paper clips. I’m also getting a little bored.. I want people to play with! Ensemble rehearsals have tapered out completely for a while now and I’m slowly going mad. :( I guess I will just have to work on solo repertoire and prepare for next year. Hamlet, brahms tragic overture and bruckner 9. And then mahler 1 and tchaik 5 for SBS.

$74.70 and three paperclips
Those were my takings from today’s busking adventure.
came across two US groups
figured out part of the star wars theme, superman and the imperial march. Princess Leia’s theme was a fail. It was 9pm-ish and I thought no one was listening, so I took the liberty to noodle around. Turns out people were listening and and gave me money anyway?!

Busking!
I know I am completely guilty of being overly harsh on the buskers I see, and I’m admittedly one of the most reluctant donors to these musicians. But with a visit to the City of Sydney office by Town Hall with Jess, I recently got my very first busking permit for a fee of $12 and joined this clan of musical nomads. Since then, I’ve been busking perhaps 4 times in 5 different places and...
